Vaping 101: How to Use Your Vape Pen

Many of our customers contact us with questions about how to get the most out of their new vape pens.

Your vape pen, which may also go by the name wax pen, dry herb vape pen, or vaporizer pen, is a portable vaporizer that falls into its own class by virtue of its discreet, pen-shaped design. By resembling a pen or ecigarette, these vaporizers are an especially stealthy way to medicate. They’re also ideal for on-the-go vaping.

Here’s the best vape pen advice for getting started right out of the box.

Step 1. Power Up

While some vape pen batteries come charged, many will require charging before use. It can take awhile for some batteries to fully charge, so get a head start and begin powering up as soon as you receive your new vaporizer. You can also benefit from buying two batteries, so you can keep your vape pen consistently charged for vaping on-demand anytime.

Step 2. Do Your Research

Every vape has its quirks and perks. Knowing how to operate your vaporizer correctly and troubleshoot any issue that might pop-up makes for a more seamless vaping experience.

For instance, conduction-style vaporizers sometimes vaporize herb or wax concentrates a little unevenly. That’s because the vaping material sits directly on the heating element in the chamber. Naturally, the material closest to the atomizer is going to vaporize more thoroughly than the material that’s not. By utilizing a stir tool, generally included in your vaporizer kit, you can simply stir around the dry herb or oil concentrate in between hits for even vaporization.

This is just one example of how doing your research about the type and brand of vaporizer you’ve bought can help you cut corners as you’re getting started.

Step 3. Cleaning Up

Vape Pens 101Many vaporizers come with cleaning utensils and fluids. This can include brushes, alcohol wipes, cleaning powder, cleaning sticks, and more. It’s recommended that you give your new vaporizer a quick clean before your first use, and follow-up with a cleaning after every 3 or 4 sessions.

Clean your vape pen in the following areas:

  • Air path
  • Mouthpiece
  • Air intake and output holes
  • Heating chamber

Cleaning your vape pen will keep it operating optimally and keep its vapor production pure.

Step 4. Fill the Chamber

How you load your vape pen depends on whether you’re having a wax concentrate, ejuice, or dry herb vape session. Every vaporizer pen is different. Some are designed specifically for one of these three major vaping materials. Units like the Cloud Pen 3.0 vape both dry herb and concentrates well.

In convection vaporizers, dry herb sits in the chamber that’s filled with hot air. In conduction units, dry herb sits directly on the atomizer. The same goes for wax and shatter.

Vape juices come in pre-filled cartridges that are simply connected to the vape pen battery.

Step 5. Vape

Each vape pen heats differently. Some have a button you hold to heat your herb or concentrates, while others only heat when you’re drawing from the mouthpiece.

Most vaporizers will indicate by LED light or vibration (or both) when vaporization heat has been reached. From there, simply take a puff or a big lung expanding hit, depending on your preference, and enjoy your inaugural toke.
